  • How do On-Demand workshops actually work?
Toymaker Kits are shipped to your site ahead of time, along with a Video Access Code—a unique password that gives you access to our entertaining instructional video for 30 days. Play the video for your class, pausing at Instruction Screens while students work on their toys. The entire experience lasts 60-90 minutes and can be completed in a single session or over multiple sessions. Conduct workshop on your time—no advance scheduling required! Find more info at How it Works and Teacher Tips.
  • How hard is the workshop for teachers to manage?
It's easy! One of our superpowers is that we "know" kids and classrooms and have developed systems that really work for teachers. It's the little touches - like including take-home bags for every child and offering early-finisher activities - that set us apart and gets us invited back into classrooms year after year.
  • Are parent/guardian volunteers recommended?
Yes. Like most special events (class parties, field trips, etc.) our workshops benefit from having a few extra adults on hand to help out where needed. One "extra" adult for every 10 students is usually fine; having even more adults participate is great too. Parents and support staff LOVE helping out and watching students shine during our workshops, so come one, come all! We'll provide a Volunteer Invite Form to send home before your workshop.
  • How much "pre-teaching" is required before the workshop?
None. Our workshops are "self-contained" teaching modules and include all the background, vocabulary and content required for students to be successful.
  • Do I need to provide any hard-to-find supplies?
Nope. We've included all the "specialty" supplies (pre-cut, pre-drilled wood parts, nuts, bolts, craft supplies, etc.) and most of the "small stuff" like paper clips, rubber bands and string. The only additional items some workshops require are "basics" like scissors, markers, and tape... the kinds of supplies you probably already have in your classroom.
  • Can teachers in our grade-level team do the workshop at different times and/or on different days?
You bet! We know teachers like the flexibility of setting their own schedules based on specialists, lunch, recess, etc. That's why you can start and stop you workshop on ANY schedule that suits your class needs. As long as all classes finish their workshops within 30 days, access to your team-wide instructional video is unlimited.
  • How far in advance should we place our order?
It's best to allow at least 3 weeks for your order to be processed and delivered. However, if you need a faster turnaround, contact us and we'll do our best to meet your scheduling needs.
  • What is SELFPACK, and can we save money by sorting kits ourselves?
SELFPACK is a discount many schools take advantage of in which school volunteers and/or support staff sort bulk supplies into individualized kits before your workshop. It's a great way to bring parents and other volunteers into the process and a great way to save money! When you choose SELFPACK, we provide one fully-assembled kit as an example, along with detailed instructions for packing the rest. Use the discount code SELFPACK when checking out to receive this valuable discount.
  • If we choose the SELFPACK discount, can my students do the self-packing themselves?
NOT recommended. The SELFPACK process takes adult-level focus and organization to insure that every kit has the correct number and assortment of parts.
  • Do you accept purchase orders and checks?
Yes, we accept Purchase Orders, Credit Cards and Check Payments. For Purchase Orders and Check Payments, select "Offline Payments" at checkout and we'll contact your school to work out details.
  • A new student just joined my class. Can we purchase an extra kit?
Yes... but first check to make sure you don't already have enough kits to cover the number of students in your group. Between absentees and "Spare Parts" that come with your kits, it's often possible to piece together an extra kit or two to accommodate new students. If not, we'll do whatever we can to help make your new student feel welcome.
  • Do you offer team discounts?
Yes, discounts for grade-level teams are baked into our pricing. See individual workshops for the various pricing tiers offered. Our workshops are a great team-wide experience!
